The crown fell. The walls remained.
Before you were heroes, someone else lost everything here. This is the story of the place you are walking into.
When the roads were safe
There were years when a caravan could leave the city at dawn and reach the far village before dark, without hiring a single guard. The crown held the roads, and the roads held the kingdom. Merchants crossed it end to end, riders carried letters between keeps, and children grew up without knowing what a sword looked like.
Nobody remembers the exact day it ended. There is no one great battle to point at. Simply, at some point, one caravan did not arrive. Then another.
The retreat
First the small roads were abandoned, then the villages that leaned on them. Families packed what they could carry and walked inward, toward the walls. Anyone who stayed outside learned two things: that dark starts early, and that those who walk alone do not return.
When the keeps emptied too, only the capital remained — one ring of light in a black field. The gate-guards still stand there, but they stopped asking who came in. They have no people left to check, and no reason: nobody comes here to steal. They come here to survive.
"In this kingdom nobody is born a hero. They simply stop dying."
The wanderers
You arrive at the gate like everyone else: no title, no reputation, a little gold and a few potions in the pocket. The first title you receive — Wanderer — is not an insult. It is an accurate description.
Whatever you have from here, you take yourselves. From the creatures that inherited the roads. From the merchants who learned exactly what a sword is worth to someone with no choice. And from the other players — those who arrived before you, those who will arrive after, and those who stand opposite you in the arena when the words run out.
What is left to take
The kingdom will not return to what it was. But every day someone pushes the border a little farther: a road reopened, a region safe enough to cross, a new name climbing the hall of fame until everyone knows it.
The only question still open is whose name that will be.
The gate is still open tonight
You do not need history and you do not need lineage. You only need to walk in.
